Our Story

Obnoxiously Black exists to build a universe where Black people are the center of the story, not a response to somebody else's.

We celebrate Blackness as something lived, inherited, felt, argued over, laughed about, protected, taught, cooked, danced to, built, remembered, and passed down. It is Ernie Barnes. It is Howard Homecoming. It is your uncle who has lived enough life to tell you the truth whether you asked for it or not. It is Luther Vandross on the way to Baker's, Dilla records nobody else knows, family debates that get too loud, growing your own food, teaching your own children, building your own institutions, loving Black people deeply, and knowing exactly why something is funny without having to explain the joke.

Our mission is to amplify the healthiest, funniest, most ambitious, most self-determined parts of Black culture and turn them into clothing, storytelling, imagery, conversation, and community.

We are rooted in Black history without allowing trauma to become the center of Black identity. We honor resistance, but we are equally interested in what we are building when the fight is over. Families. Businesses. Farms. Schools. Art. Marriages. Friendships. Wealth. Neighborhoods. Traditions. Institutions. Memory. Joy.

Obnoxiously Black believes that putting one another first is both a privilege and a responsibility.

This is a place for people who understand that Blackness is more than appearance. It is rhythm. Memory. Humor. Instinct. Language. Taste. Spirit. Ancestral connection. A particular emotional intelligence. A way of seeing one another across a room and already knowing.

Some of our cultural heroes are disciplined. Some are brilliant. Some are messy as hell. Some probably should not be trusted with your car, your cousin, or your last twenty dollars. But they are unmistakably, undeniably, spectacularly Black.

And we love that too.

Obnoxiously Black is a universe prioritizing us.
